Madredeus is a prominent Portuguese music group formed in 1985 in Lisbon. Known for their unique blend of fado, folk, and contemporary genres, the band quickly gained national and international recognition. Incorporating traditional Portuguese instruments like the Portuguese guitar into their music, their ethereal and melancholic sound captivated audiences worldwide. Madredeus achieved significant success with their album "O Espírito da Paz" in 1994, which went platinum in Portugal and won critical acclaim. Their hauntingly beautiful soundtrack for the film "Lisbon Story" (1994) by Wim Wenders further expanded their global popularity. Over the years, Madredeus continuously evolved their musical style, collaborating with renowned artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto and Sting. In 2007, they celebrated their 20th anniversary with a live performance at Lisbon's Coliseu dos Recreios.
