Spirit

Spirit was an American rock band that rose to prominence in the late 1960s. Formed in Los Angeles in 1967, the group consisted of vocalist Jay Ferguson, guitarist Randy California, bassist Mark Andes, and drummer Ed Cassidy. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1968, showcased their unique blend of psychedelic and progressive rock, earning them critical acclaim. Spirit's most well-known song, "Taurus," gained fame for its resemblance to Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven," leading to a legal dispute that was settled out of court. Their 1969 album "Clear," featuring the chart-topping single "I Got a Line on You," further solidified their success. Over the years, the band underwent several lineup changes, and Randy California tragically passed away in 1997. Despite their commercial success never matching their critical acclaim, Spirit's influence on the rock genre remains significant.
