Phillip Doddridge was a prominent figure in the musical landscape of the 18th century. Born in 1702, he flourished as a hymn writer, educator, theologian, and pastor. His hymns gained immense popularity and are still sung today. Doddridge composed over 400 hymns during his lifetime, focusing on themes of religious devotion and praise. He is best known for his celebrated hymn, "O Happy Day," which became an anthem of the evangelistic movement. Additionally, Doddridge founded a theological academy, Northampton Academy, in 1745, where he inspired and trained numerous students who later became influential leaders. His impact on religious music and education continues to resonate to this day.
