Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych was a Ukrainian composer and choral conductor, born on December 13, 1877. He is best known for his composition "Carol of the Bells," which has become a beloved Christmas song worldwide. Leontovych studied music in St. Petersburg and later became a conductor of various choirs in Ukraine. His works were heavily influenced by Ukrainian folk music and culture, showcasing his deep love for his homeland. Tragically, Leontovych's life was cut short when he was assassinated in 1921 during the political unrest in Ukraine. Despite his untimely death, his music continues to be celebrated and performed, solidifying his legacy as one of Ukraine's most significant composers.
