Mother 0, also known as EarthBound Zero, is a role-playing video game developed by Ape Inc. and published by Nintendo for the Famicom in Japan. It was created by Shigesato Itoi and released on July 27, 1989. The game is a prequel to the popular EarthBound series, which gained a cult following outside of Japan. Mother 0 follows a young boy named Ninten who embarks on a quest to save the world from an alien invasion. Despite its critical acclaim and unique gameplay mechanics, the game never received an official international release until 2015 when it was made available on the Wii U Virtual Console as EarthBound Beginnings. Mother 0 has since become a beloved part of gaming history, known for its quirky characters, catchy soundtrack composed by Keiichi Suzuki, and its influence on the role-playing genre.
