James Lord Pierpont

James Lord Pierpont was an American composer and songwriter born on April 25, 1822. He is known for composing the popular holiday song "Jingle Bells" in 1857. Originally titled "The One Horse Open Sleigh," the song was copyrighted by Pierpont in 1857, but it gained widespread popularity when it was reissued with a new name. Interestingly, "Jingle Bells" was not initially intended as a Christmas song; it was written for Thanksgiving. Pierpont played a significant role in the early development of American popular music and worked as an organist, composer, and music director during his career.
