Ave Maria

"Ave Maria" is a classical song composed by Franz Schubert in the original key of B-flat major. It was written in 1825 as part of his song cycle entitled "Ellens dritter Gesang" (Ellen's Third Song), which is based on Walter Scott's poem "The Lady of the Lake." The song has been performed by numerous artists and has become one of Schubert's most popular works. Interestingly, Schubert did not title the song "Ave Maria" himself, as the lyrics were in German rather than Latin. However, the melody he composed for the song became so well-known that its association with the Latin prayer led to the title "Ave Maria." The melody features a calm and serene character, with a gentle and flowing progression that highlights the beauty of the lyrics and creates a solemn atmosphere.
