Ave Maria

It was written in 1825 as part of his song cycle entitled "Ellens dritter Gesang" (Ellen's Third Song), which is based on Walter Scott's poem "The Lady of the Lake." Interestingly, Schubert did not title the song "Ave Maria" himself, as the lyrics were in German rather than Latin.
