Tonight's The Night

Tonight's the Night is originally in the key of G major. It was written and performed by Rod Stewart and released in 1976 on his album A Night on the Town. The song was produced by Tom Dowd. Rod Stewart is a British singer who gained prominence in the 1960s and 1970s, both solo and with bands like the Faces. The song became a major hit, reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and staying there for eight weeks. It was the best-selling single in the United States in 1977. Britt Ekland, Stewart's girlfriend at the time, performed a spoken French part at the end of the track. The BBC temporarily banned the song due to suggestive lyrics. The melody features a slow tempo, soft piano and acoustic guitar, with a simple chord progression using G, C, D, and E minor, and includes a saxophone solo.
