Badinerie from Suite no.2 in B minor

Badinerie is originally in the key of B minor. It is the final movement of the Orchestral Suite no 2 in B minor BWV 1067 composed by Johann Sebastian Bach around 1738. The suite was written for flute solo with string orchestra and continuo, likely during Bach's time in Leipzig. The title Badinerie comes from the French word for jest or playfulness and refers to the light character of the piece. It is one of Bach's most recognized instrumental works for flute and is often performed as a standalone piece. The melody features fast sixteenth-note passages, quick arpeggios, and light ornamentation, demanding high technical skill from the flutist. The rhythm is lively and consistent, structured in binary form with a clear and energetic character.
