Kimigayo

The "National Anthem of Japan," known as "Kimigayo," is traditionally performed in the key of C major. Composed by an unknown author, the melody dates back to the Heian period (794–1185) and has been used as Japan's national anthem since the 19th century. The lyrics, written in the Waka poetry style, were officially adopted in 1888. "Kimigayo" is often performed at official ceremonies and events, symbolizing Japan's unity and pride. Despite being deeply ingrained in Japanese culture, the anthem has sparked debate due to its historical associations with the country's militaristic past, leading to occasional controversies over its use in public settings. The melody itself is characterized by a solemn and dignified tone, reflecting the anthem's significance as a symbol of Japanese identity.
