Smoke on the water - Riff

"Smoke on the Water" is a famous rock song by Deep Purple, originally played in the key of G minor. It was released in 1972 as a single from their album "Machine Head." The song's iconic guitar riff, composed by Ritchie Blackmore, is instantly recognizable and has become one of the most recognizable melodies in rock music history. The lyrics were written by Ian Gillan and depict an actual event that took place during a Deep Purple concert in Montreux, Switzerland, where a fire broke out in the Montreux Casino during a Frank Zappa concert. Due to this incident, the band had to abandon their initial plans of recording the album at the casino, and instead, they recorded it at the nearby Grand Hotel. As for the riff, it consists of a series of four power chords played on the guitar and has been noted for its simplicity and effectiveness. It has influenced numerous musicians and remains a timeless classic in rock music.
