"Smoke on the Water" is a famous rock song by Deep Purple, originally played in the key of G minor. It was released in 1972 as a single from their album "Machine Head." The song's iconic guitar riff, composed by Ritchie Blackmore, is instantly recognizable and has become one of the most recognizable melodies in rock music history. The lyrics were written by Ian Gillan and depict an actual event that took place during a Deep Purple concert in Montreux, Switzerland, where a fire broke out in the Montreux Casino during a Frank Zappa concert.
