My Rifle, My Pony, and Me

"My Rifle, My Pony, and Me" is a song performed in the key of G major and was originally included in the 1959 Western film "Rio Bravo." The song is sung as a duet by Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson, who also acted in the movie. Composed by Dimitri Tiomkin and lyricist Paul Francis Webster, the song portrays the beautiful camaraderie between two cowboys and their life on the range. Interestingly, during the filming of "Rio Bravo," Nelson was only 18 years old and had to learn his guitar parts for the film to make his performance more authentic. The melody of "My Rifle, My Pony, and Me" is simple and folk-inspired, with a melodic line that evokes a sense of Western tranquility and the open plains.
