Inti Illimani
Inti-Illimani is a renowned Chilean folk music group founded in 1967. The band's name translates to "Sun of the Illimani" in the indigenous Quechua language, paying homage to the Illimani mountain in Bolivia. Inti-Illimani's music combines traditional South American instruments like charango and zamponas with contemporary elements, creating a unique fusion of folk, jazz, and world music. The group's early years were marked by political activism against the dictatorial regime of Augusto Pinochet, which led to their exile in Italy until 1988. Throughout their career, Inti-Illimani has released numerous albums, collaborated with esteemed artists like Mercedes Sosa and Paco Peña, and performed on stages worldwide, spreading Latin American culture and inspiring generations with their harmonious melodies and socially conscious lyrics.
