Inezita Barroso was a prominent figure in the musical landscape of Brazil. Born on March 4, 1925, in São Paulo, she dedicated her life to preserving and promoting Brazilian folk music. Inezita began her artistic career as an actress and made her film debut in the 1951 production of "Lampião, King of Cangaceiros." However, it was her passion for music that truly defined her legacy. In 1955, Barroso released her first album, titled "Marvada Pinga," which was a successful showcase of traditional Brazilian folk songs. Throughout her career, she released over 40 albums, showcasing her versatility by exploring different musical styles, including samba, bossa nova, and música caipira. Inezita's contributions greatly influenced the preservation of Brazilian culture and she was known for researching and documenting folk songs, as well as hosting a popular television show called "Viola, Minha Viola," which ran for over 30 years. Her dedication to promoting Brazil's musical heritage earned her numerous accolades, including two Latin Grammy nominations and induction into the Latin American Excellence Hall of Fame. Inezita Barroso passed away on March 8, 2015, leaving behind a rich legacy and a lasting impact on Brazilian music.
