ICO
Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is a fundraising method utilized by startups in the cryptocurrency industry to acquire capital. It gained popularity during the crypto boom in 2017 and has since become a prominent aspect of the blockchain space. ICOs allow projects to issue digital tokens, which can be purchased by investors using existing cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. These tokens act as a form of investment, granting holders certain rights or access to the project's platform or services once it is developed. Although ICOs provided a means for many successful blockchain projects to secure funding, they also faced criticism due to the prevalence of scams and dishonest projects in the market. Consequently, regulators across the globe have implemented stricter regulations to protect investors. This has led to the emergence of alternative fundraising models such as Security Token Offerings (STOs) and Initial Exchange Offerings (IEOs), which aim to address some of the shortcomings of traditional ICOs.
