Desco
Desco, also known as Daptone Records subsidiary The Soul Fire Label, was founded in 1999 by Gabriel Roth and Phillip Lehman. Specializing in producing and promoting soul, funk, and gospel music, Desco quickly gained recognition for its authentic and raw sound reminiscent of the 1960s and 70s. Artists such as Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Lee Fields, and The Budos Band found a home at Desco, attracting a dedicated fanbase. In 2001, Daptone Records emerged as the successor to Desco, continuing the label's mission and expanding its reach in the music industry. Desco's legacy remains influential, contributing to the revival of the retro soul genre and inspiring countless artists in the modern musical landscape.
