Crazy Frog

Created by Swedish composer and producer Erik Wernquist, Crazy Frog is a fictional character known for its memorable electronic sound-effect mimicking engine noises and annoyingly catchy tunes. The character made its debut in 2003, originating from a parody animation called "The Annoying Thing." The animated character was eventually accompanied by the release of a single called "Axel F" - a remix of Harold Faltermeyer's theme from the film Beverly Hills Cop. Surprisingly, Crazy Frog's single become a massive hit across Europe in 2005, reaching number one in several countries. Despite facing criticism for its repetitive and irritating nature, the character continued to release numerous singles, remixes, and albums, with some charting success. The franchise branched into various merchandise and video games but saw a decrease in popularity over time. Nonetheless, Crazy Frog remains a fascinating example of both the viral nature of internet sensations and the sometimes perplexing taste in music throughout different periods in our musical landscape.
