Carlos Gardel
Carlos Gardel, born on December 11, 1890, was an influential figure in the musical landscape, particularly in tango music. Known as "The King of Tango," Gardel was a singer, songwriter, and actor of French and Argentine descent. He rose to fame in the 1920s and quickly became an emblematic symbol of tango, capturing the hearts of audiences worldwide with his distinctive voice and charismatic performances. Gardel recorded numerous tango classics, including "Mi Buenos Aires Querido" and "Por una Cabeza," which are still beloved today. Tragically, he died in a plane crash on June 24, 1935, at the age of 44, while on a tour in Colombia. Despite his untimely death, Gardel's legacy endures, making him an icon of Argentine culture and a pioneer in popularizing tango globally.
